The Bucks and Bobby Portis, as "obvious"

The Bucks and Bobby Portis, as “obvious”

The Little Rock native was back in Arkansas to host a three-day event with his foundation. Three weeks after extending to the Bucks for $48.5 million over four years, Bobby Portis confirmed that he didn’t hesitate long despite interest from other franchises. None of them, however, assured him of what Milwaukee could offer him, at all levels.

“It’s my home”he summarized. “The fans adopted me, my teammates too. I have the opportunity to be authentic every day. I don’t need to overdo it. Just play and be who I am. I can be myself on the pitch, so it’s like a perfect marriage. It was a no-brainer for me, especially with all the fan support I get on and off the pitch.”

The choice of stability

At the Bucks, he is guaranteed to remain one of the darlings of the public, to be able to play the title and to have a major role behind the Holiday-Middleton-Antetokounmpo trio. It’s hard to find a better challenge, especially since Bobby Portis now has his marks in Milwaukee.

“Being here for two years, on and off the pitch, has changed me. It made me a better player and a better man off the pitch. Being surrounded by good guys who do whatever it takes, guys who don’t ask for too much attention, who come in every day to give it their all. It’s hard to find that kind of atmosphere in the league by going elsewhere, you don’t know what you’re going to find. And then there are also great teammates and great coaches who believe in you. It’s hard to find it all in one place. And I basically have that here with the Bucks”he had recently slipped to The Athletic.

His career and his past also pushed him to look for continuity, he who took time to stabilize in the NBA and find a coherent project after starting at the Bulls, where he remained for three and a half years (2015- 2019) before moving to the Wizards then the Knicks to finally find the shoe that fits in Wisconsin.

“When you’re a budding basketball player, a college guy aspiring to play in the NBA, you don’t really think about the marathon you’re going to run. You are simply focusing on your will to succeed. You fall in love with the team that drafted you. And I fell in love with the Bulls”he added. “I didn’t have any other team in mind when I got drafted by Chicago. And then when you get traded, it’s like breaking up with his girlfriend for the first time. It really hurts. It took me a minute to regain my senses. In Milwaukee, I found this home”.
