We don’t know which is the most beautiful open-air film festival in the world, but Cinéma Paradiso, in the Cour Carrée du Louvre, is necessarily one of the top. Not at the foot of the Pyramid, which would be very cumbersome in the middle of an open-air room, but its neighboring courtyard, normally transformed only for fashion shows. To have a chance to participate this summer, places are up for grabs from this Wednesday noon. This festival was launched in 2019 before being swept away by the pandemic in 2020, then returning last summer, but you still had to present your health pass or present your nostrils for the test ritual.
Food trucks and karaoke
This time, these four evenings organized jointly by the Louvre and MK2, from July 15 to 18, return without flat, without limitation, without deprivation, and without fear. Just the party. Because here, it’s not just about cinema. In homage to Giuseppe Tornatore’s film, “Cinema Paradiso”, whose title MK2 took over to organize this festival, a brand that travels and has already been organized at the Grand Palais, the public is invited to an atmosphere.
On the menu: bars, food trucks, karaoke – this summer we’ll be able to sing all the great titles of the “Demoiselles de Rochefort” don’t forget to revise -, in a reconstructed Italian street on the banks of the Seine Riviera. Before or after every movie, concert or DJ set.
Volcanic atmosphere and airy notes
Ask for the program. The festival opens on Friday, July 15 at nightfall with a preview, “Fire of Love”, a cosmic documentary by Sara Dosa devoted to the couple of volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, before its theatrical release. An ultra-spectacular ode to two passionate people who died as they had lived, on June 3, 1991, in the eruption of a volcano in Japan, caught in a burning cloud while their last film highlighted risk prevention.
In twenty-five years, this nomadic couple, he a geologist and she a chemist, has studied more than 150 eruptions around the world. After the screening, musician Nicolas Godin, from the group Air, will deliver his sounds to extend this journey to the heart of the molten cosmos.
Ryan Gosling preview
On Saturday the 16th, a small event: Netflix agreed to premiere on a huge 24m screen its flagship summer film, “The Gray Man”, by Joe and Anthony Russo, available only a week later, from the 22nd, on the platform.
Billed as the most expensive film produced by Netflix, this thriller in the darkness of the CIA marks the return of Ryan Gosling (expect a scorching atmosphere and quite a lot of screams) and Ana de Armas, revealed in the last “James Bond “. Some would even see the Cuban-Spanish actress regaining the number of 007, or obtaining her “license to kill”. A screening expected after a concert by La Femme.
Mozart, Riopy and Rome at night
After two previews, two classics. On Sunday 17, a concert by pianist Riopy (a magical atmosphere guaranteed in the Cour Carrée) will precede Milos Forman’s “Amadeus” for this musical evening. We may know Salieri’s hatred for the prodigy composer by heart, but we never tire of seeing this Mozart and his evil double on the big screen.
Monday 18, closing with Paolo Sorrentino’s masterpiece, “La Grande Belleza”, a tribute to Fellini’s Rome, to the night, to life, after a concert by Breakbot and Irfane: a more contemporary atmosphere to finish.
It remains to find places, free of course, but taken by storm for a gauge of around 2,500 spectators per evening. Connect if you hope to drink a spritz mid-July in one of the most beautiful courtyards of the Louvre: you must register this Wednesday from noon on the Mk2festivalparadiso.com site.
Do not panic if you come across this article a little late: in fact, for the first time, it will be a draw. You can request up to four places (two adults and two children), but it is not the first registrants who will necessarily obtain them.
The principle is that of a double lottery. Places will be issued to lucky game winners who registered between June 8 and June 22. On that day, the losers will be switched to a second chance and anyone can play again until June 29, the date of the second draw. A little complicated, but Ryan Gosling on the giant screen of the Cour Carrée, it has to be earned.
