After three years of waiting, the flagship series of the Netflix platform, Stranger Things, is back with a fourth season. For the occasion, the Duffer brothers have seen things big, producing episodes in XXL format, very often exceeding 1h15. The last episode of the season, which will be available from July 1, will also last 2h19. An exceptional length for a series.
If the fourth season of the adventures of the Hawkins gang has been very well received by fans, as evidenced by the many reactions it has generated on social networks from the day of its release, some inconsistencies were quick to be notified by the most attentive fans. We mentioned one recently related to Eleven’s past, but today we would like to draw your attention to the character of Will Byers.
Indeed, in season 4, Will feels (as usual) neglected by his best friend, Mike, who only has eyes and attention for his girlfriend, Eleven. In the first episode, the loneliness of the young man is felt, while the three friends are at the ice rink. Fans have also discovered a detail that makes this scene even sadder: we can see on the screen of a camera that this walk with friends takes place on March 22, 1986. A day that is not insignificant, since it is about Will’s birthday.
Remember. In the second season of Stranger Thingswhile Will is plagued by the Mind Flayer, his mother tries to calm him down, reminding him that March 22 will be his birthday. Are Mike, Eleven, Jonathan and Joyce so used to putting Will aside that they all forgot his birthday?
It would seem that they are not the only ones, since the Duffer brothers, questioned about this injustice, confessed to having also forgotten this important date for the characterthus creating an error in the continuity.
The honest answer is clearly that like the characters on the show, we too have forgotten Will’s birthday. The debate right now is: do we adjust his birthday, or do we leave him really sad?
The creators of the series develop, and explain the origin of their error: they don’t have a person in charge of helping them with continuity. The two screenwriters explain that George RR Martin and Stephen King receive help in this task, whereas they can only rely on their (bad) memory. They nevertheless assure that they love Will very much, and that they will not make the same mistake with Dustin, whose birthday is also known.
