The context of next season
The Girondins are officially relegated to Ligue 2. After a nightmarish season, the club with the scapular will land in the second tier of French football during a somewhat unusual season. Indeed, during the 2023/2024 season, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 will go from 20 to 18 clubs.
As a result, there will be 4 clubs moving down from Ligue 1 to Ligue 2 next season, for only 2 accessions from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1. In addition, there will be no more play-offs.
The main competitors for the climb
To define the list of main competitors we took into account the performances and the ranking of the teams this season. It should also be noted that Saint-Étienne and Auxerre are on this list pending their play-off matches.
Saint-Étienne or Auxerre will be favorites
In case of defeat in the play-offs, Sainté will be a serious competitor for the climb next season. The Greens, who have had a season as complicated as the Girondins, will be fueled by the same ambitions as the FCGB, that is to say, to quickly come back up so as not to drag on in Ligue 2.
Likewise for AJ Auxerre. In the event of defeats during their play-offs, AJA will remain one of the main competitors for the climb next season. With a well-established place, the Auxerrois still dream of a return to their past glories.
Paris FC and FC Sochaux-Montbéliard serious competitors
Eliminated in the entry dam by Sochaux, Paris FC, the second club in the capital, remains a good element of the Ligue 2 championship and will no doubt want to try its luck again next season. The club is ambitious.
Released in the accession dam by Auxerre after beating Paris FC, the lion cubs author of a very good season will also want to try their luck to join the elite of French football next season.

EA Guingamp in ambush
The EAG, which ended its season at the gates of the accession play-offs, still dreams of a return to Ligue 1 and could play the spoilsport next season.
