A very limited gesture… After two years disrupted by the health crisis, the Cannes Film Festival made its big comeback on Tuesday May 17, 2022. During the climb of the steps of the film Triangle of Sadness by Ruben Östlund, Saturday May 21, 2022, Carla Bruni appeared in a sublime Céline lavender dress. If the singer attracted all eyes, she however broke the rules. At the top of the steps of the Palais des Festivals, the wife of Nicolas Sarkozy indeed took an electronic cigarette out of her bag and began to vape. Called to order by the president of the Festival, Thierry Frémaux, Carla Bruni then broke a new rule by taking out her phone to take some photos.
For three years, the Cannes Film Festival has banned selfies on the red carpet. However, Thierry Frémaux made a small exception to the rule by agreeing to pose alongside the former model. A few days earlier, Omar Sy had also broken the rule by taking a selfie with his wife, Hélène, and Alassane Diong. In March 2018, the president of the Festival had however been clear on the subject. He had indeed said:We have decided to ban selfies. At the top of the red carpet, the triviality and the slowdown caused by the untimely mess created by the practice of selfies harm the quality of the climb of the steps.“
A remarkable appearance
On her Instagram account, Carla Bruni shared pictures of her first day in Cannes. In the first photo, we can see her holding her electronic cigarette. Preferring to focus on her look, many netizens complimented her. In the comments section, it reads:You look like you’re 25!“; “Simply beautiful“; “You are amazing Carla! More and more beautiful with the years” ; but also : “Bright, lovely, dazzling!“
